Staff Meteorologist JOHN WETHERBEE
“Yes, WETHERBEE is my real last name,” says “Big” John Wetherbee. And the
BIG means tall. “I’m six-foot-nine, which is usually bigger than most folks. So I’m
stuck with it.” And he’s “big” in our community, our town.
Big John is familiar to audiences all over the country for years as meteorologist,
radio personality, radio program director and general manager.
He is a sealed and certified radio and TV meteorologist, working as Chief
Meteorologist for the CBS TV station in Atlanta, and TV stations in Nashville,
Chattanooga and Savannah, and radio stations in many markets including Ohio,
Chicago, Indianapolis and Atlanta.
In 1997 he started his RADIO WEATHER SERVICE now providing lifestyle
weather forecasts to 102 different radio stations in all time zones, and three
networks. And Big John continues the tradition of service 24/7/365 with syndication
through the Envision Radio Network.
Mr. Wetherbee is sealed as a certified broadcast meteorologist by the American
Meteorological Society, their highest certification. John served as president of a
local AMS chapter and continues to serve on the national broadcast committee.
He has appeared at the University of Georgia’s Grady School of Journalism,
Armstrong Atlantic State University and at Georgia Southern University, and
continues to write for neighborhood newspapers while blogging daily online plus
Facebook, Twitter, Linked IN and You Tube.
John and his wife are proud parents of three daughters and two son-in-laws, with
the youngest daughter working toward a degree in sports management, all Bulldogs.
And there’s a dog, two cats and three fish. “What a team…”
And he’s a HUGE UGA football fan. “That and doing the weather.” Tune in
tomorrow morning and get the update. “And make it a great day!”
